So, how do you know if that puppy in the
pet shop is from a puppy mill? Well, the
fact that it is sitting in a pet shop in a cage
(most likely) and not in someone's living room
tells you what kind of breeder that puppy
came from. Also, many stores like Wentz
Canine say they get a "shipment" in every
Wednesday or something like that and many
say, if we don't have the breed you're looking
for, we can get it, no problem. How is that
possible? They have a constant supply from
large-scale commercial breeding facilities
(aka puppy mills)!
Ask yourself these questions when you
see a cute puppy in a store:
Can I see the parents?
Have I seen where the puppy was kept
before it came here?
How are the mom and dad treated?
How do I know it is from healthy lines?
Have I checked at local shelters and
breed rescues?
Remember, you can always do the research
yourself. Ask for the breeder's name and
info. and look them up online on the PA Dept.
of Agriculture's website. If you find a listing,
check to see what class they are, K5 is 251+
dogs per year, obviously they are not
breeding them in their living room! You can
also see kennel inspection reports and may
possibly find some information about what
violations (if any) they've had recently.
If you have any trouble or would like help doing
research on a pet store or breeder, please just
use the "Contact Us" option.
